A story of commitment to the community
Gabriela Vega-Matthews‘s years of experience working in Dutchess County gave her a close-up view of the challenges immigrant families face in finding information and accessing services.
In the feature published by Hudson Valley Press, Gabriela shared how her journey led her to recognize the need to create a space that connected people with the resources available in their community.
That commitment gave rise to Casa Comunitaria de Recursos (CCR), a community initiative that began in 2020 and later became an established nonprofit organization.

From experience to a community mission
The feature addressed the difficulties families can face in learning about available programs and services, especially when language barriers or a lack of information exist.
CCR was created with the purpose of helping reduce that disconnect through guidance, educational activities, and connections with local institutions and organizations.
Its work seeks to offer a space where people can ask questions, receive information, and find opportunities for support.
Growing through connections
One of the highlights of the publication was the importance of collaborations in expanding the reach of community work.
Relationships with local organizations, volunteers, and partners allow CCR to develop activities and bring information to Dutchess County residents.
These connections are a fundamental part of a mission that seeks to make resources more accessible and strengthen community participation.
An organization built from the community
CCR’s work begins with listening to people, recognizing existing needs, and facilitating communication between residents and institutions.
The Hudson Valley Press feature helped share Gabriela’s journey and the purpose of Casa Comunitaria de Recursos with a wider audience.
For CCR, every opportunity to tell its story is also a way to reach new people, organizations, and potential partners.
